It’s a nice and sunny day in San Diego, like it is more or less all the other 364 days of the year. We reach down the Gaslamp quarter to stop for some pancakes and stuffed french toast and some fresh coffee. The downtown area looks very neat and comfortable. Very few cars around, chilled atmosphere as well even if here in California it looks like nobody cares about Easter, so it’s a normal working day.
So we start our walk down to the marina where we pass the statue of the Unconditional Surrender close to the USS Midway museum.
Walking along the piers we have a lovely surprise: a seal is just hanging around and shows itself outside the water. Was it that making us hungry again?
Or the maybe was it entering Little Italy? This part of town is really very attractive, so many little restaurants, and markets to pick up your sandwich for lunch which you can eat just about anywhere around there, either in the sun or in the shade of a palm tree. So we walk along Little Italy towards downtown where we catch the trolley to Old Town. A reconstruction of the original heart of San Diego, which is now hosting little mexican markets, coffee and chocolate shops, and many Mexican restaurants. Even if we are definitely done with Mexican food, we take one more Margarita and some nachos with salsa. Never say “this is my last spicy bite, EVER”, you will always take one more at some point!
Heading back to town for dinner at sunset. The following day, since it is slightly overcast we take a bus to Pacific Beach. Quite a few people spending the day there, either surfing or just sleeping in the sun. The air is cold, and the water is icy, but the whole atmosphere is really relaxing! At the end of the afternoon there we walk all the way to Mission Beach following the Ocean Front, and we catch a bus back from there. Dinner in Little Italy is a must!
One other attraction of San Diego is the Balboa park, which is nice on its own, but in addition it offers a collection of museums and galleries. All of them in really charming buildings.
We take a long walk through the park and stop for lunch. After other 5km we are back to town for our last night out. After an oily and delicious dinner at the Operacaffe we spend the night at the jazz and soul club with live music and funny people showing their pumped arms to attract attentions. The more you watch the crazier it gets!
Having a good time!
During the last day in lovely San Diego we get to discover the super classy Marina with small shops and seafood restaurants, but mainly with huge boats. Looks like nobody ran out of money around here! Some of these yachts are just like floating villas. Maybe one day….but most likely not!
It’s time to go back to the hotel to pick up our luggage and walk to the south of town where the bus terminal is. Next stop Los Angeles. It should take about 3 hours.
