Packed our backpacks in Puerto Escondido to catch a bus to Pochutla in a pretty devastating heat. In just a bit more than 1 hour we arrive at destination and get a taxi to Puerto Angel. As we don’t have a reservation we chat with the taxi driver to get some insight on what is the best deal for a hotel close to the beach. We arrive at hotel Cordelia’s, which looks very comfortable, chairs on the beach, some places to eat and the room is cheap and with an amazing view of the bay. We take it!
We take the time to unpack some stuff and I get down to the sea for a swim. It feels great! There are really few people here, 4 from Chipilo with whom I attempt a conversation and some locals who just come by for a day or two. Everything looks perfect, we sit down on some plastic chairs close to the beach and have dinner with some grilled fish. Taste delicious! People go to sleep early here to be on the boat fishing in the morning. So we go back to our room which has a terrace as well, but note: no air conditioner, just a fan in the celing. So we go to sleep feeling immediately hot, too hot. I also feel very uncomfortable with the pillow which looks more or less like a cube of (hot) steel, creating an angle of 90 degrees between my body and my neck.
After a few hours of sleep we wake up in a pool of sweat. The hottest room on earth. So we open the door to the terrace to get some breeze, too bad the fanciness of having a view of the sea during the night turns into a nightmare of a wave breaking in your brain every 15 seconds. Unable to sleep we shut the door and turn on the fan:
speed 1: “zic-zoc zic-zoc zic-zoc zic-zoc zic-zoc”
speed 2: “zi-zo-zi-zo-zi-zo-zi-zo”
speed 3: “ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii”
It doesn’t even look so attached to the sealing as I would hope for!
Turn off the fan and open the door again, maybe it’s better now…splash…splash…SPLASHHHHHH…..SSSSPLASSSSHHHH.
Close the door! Turn on the fan…ziiiiiiiiiiiiiiIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII.
Close the door and turn off the fan, it can’t be that bad. Let’s try again. After 2 seconds we are in pool of sweat again. We continue interchanging this three options for a while without finding any peace.
In a moment of despair and for sake of statistic I try the option: door open AND fan on. You can just imagine: SSSPLASSSHZZIIIIIIISPLASHHHHZZZZIIIIII”
So we decide that after some hours we’ll bee so tired we would fall asleep anyway. At about 5am we feel a little sleepy indeed and “CHICCHIRICHIIIIIIII CHICCHIRICHIIIIIIII”, oh no! the roosters are kicking in! At about 5.30 the parrot downstairs starts with “HHOLA!” and the other like a crazy monkey: “HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI HI”.
I fall asleep for a couple of hours out of my misery while Andreas just gives it up for the day and will recover later in the afternoon after our boat trip.
Fortunately we have one more night here đŸ˜€
speed 4: ma ZIIIIIIIIIIIIIIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO scanĂ¡!!!!!!!!!
