We’ll be visiting our friend Francesca in Nairobi tomorrow and it is therefore time to pack our bags and possibly do some laundry as the sun is shining and it’s warm enough to dry the clothes within the day. Just on the other side of the road a few hundreds meters away there is a shopping mall where we can grab a cup of coffee and a couple of cards to send home. People will start leaving soon, some will be going back to Arusha to start the Kilimanjaro climb (Kevina and Rhys), some will continue to Uganda for a volunteering project (Hayley), some to Burkina Faso (Jenny!), to Egypt (Kat), Israel (Matt) and Greece. The rest of us will go back home to Italy, Australia, Canada and the States. We have been a great group and really made the best out of it!
We have the last day to explore Nairobi and therefore take a taxi with Hayley to the center where we’ll meet with Nathan and Matt. It’s actually a nice town, very vibrant and full of people. Despite the traffic there are some green corners and open spaces. To get the best view of the city from high up we reach the Kenyatta International Conference Center where, thanks to the beautiful weather, we can see as far as the National Park at the edge of town. It’s sad how we can all be full of prejudice, but we should give every place a chance to impress us! And Nairobi did. For lunch the five of us have the most amazing meal in a surreal bar. Ossobuco is the dish of the day: a mixture of flavors and greasy richness comes along with the meat. We couldn’t pick a better option! It will take forever to go back to Karen as the traffic jam starts soon in the afternoon. We’ll there be picked up by Francesca’s favorite taxi driver, Charles. And this is another amazing turn of the trip: after months of travelling, the person we say goodbye to the journey with is a person I know, from Italy! It wasn’t planned, it was just perfect! So we go for pizza and already feel like home 🙂 After dinner, we drive around looking for a party and then back with one person too many in the car, so I’m actually sitting on Andreas’ lap. A real bed awaits us at Francesca’s place, who was so nice to give us her bed after days and nights on the mats in the tents…we’ll never forget! I actually don’t remember sleeping so well ever! It’s incredibly silent around here, and just a few colorful birds are coming close to the windows to wake us up. But it’s good because we’ll have the breakfast of champions waiting for us: omelette and bacon, with some great coffee. This should make us strong enough all the way to London! Francesca is leaving in the afternoon for a birthday party, but we’ll have a couple of hours to relax and pack our staff for the flight. It will be a long and controversial: Nairobi-Dubai-Amman-London not free of surprises…the first one is that my ticket to Dubai was actually not issued! I guess I will make this as the first episode of our new lives which are starting tomorrow!
It has been great!!!
